Overview

Nestled in a bustling corner beneath the city streets of Haymarket, Blossom Roll and Bowl offers a fresh and vibrant take on classic Vietnamese cuisine. Situated conveniently near Central Station at 827-837 George St, this modest eatery thrives in an unassuming location accessed via the TAFE arcade or the tunnel near the station, a hidden gem that locals and commuters alike treasure for its authenticity and heart.

The crown jewel of their menu is undoubtedly the Banh Mi, specifically the crispy and flavorful pork variant. This sandwich strikes a perfect balance between a fresh, warm, and crusty baguette, tender well-marinated pork, and vibrant pickled vegetables that add a satisfying crunch. It’s crafted with care, showcasing fresh ingredients and house-made touches like buttery smooth pate that isn’t overpowering, appealing to both traditionalists and those newer to Vietnamese flavors.

Beyond the banh mi, Blossom Roll and Bowl delivers an impressive lineup of dishes that reflect the rich diversity of Vietnamese street food. From vermicelli salad bowls and pho to rice paper rolls filled generously with pork and prawn, every dish carries the same attention to freshness and layered flavors. The menu feels thoughtfully curated for quick, satisfying meals that resonate with a broad audience—students, city workers, and busy travelers passing through the station hub.

The atmosphere is friendly and personal. Many reviewers note the warmth and kindness of the staff, who go beyond service by sharing small gestures like complimentary mandarins or dried jackfruit, making each visit feel welcoming and memorable. This sense of genuine hospitality enriches the dining experience, creating a casual yet comforting space where customers feel valued.

Blossom’s position in the CBD means it serves a vibrant mix of hustle-and-bustle lifestyles, aligning perfectly with those seeking affordable, authentic Vietnamese in a grab-and-go format. Its sustained popularity hints at more than just good food—it’s a spot where heritage meets daily city life, bridging the gap between tradition and convenience.

For anyone eager to explore Vietnamese flavors in Sydney's central food landscape, Blossom Roll and Bowl offers a distinctive, satisfying takeaway experience. Whether it’s the iconic banh mi or their array of rice dishes and rolls, this eatery captures the essence of Vietnamese street food with both heart and flavor.

Their shop is located at the ground level not George Street level. If you're coming from Charles Darwin Uni side, take the escalators down. I tried their pork banh mi and pork and prawn rice paper rolls and they are both very good! Heaps of meat in my banh mi plus freshly made rice paper rolls. The ladies were very nice too, they even gave me dried jackfruit after I finish the banh mi. Will surely go back to try other banh mis

When I told the kind lady that served me that I was catching the train back to Canberra, she told me to keep warm - and gave me a complementary mandarin. Banh Mi was beut, 8 bucks. If that isn’t great Vietnamese hospitality I don’t know what is :)

The lemongrass pork banh mi was so yummy! The staff are so friendly and the service was quick. You can find this spot if you go down the tafe arcade entrance from George street or the tunnel from central.

Best banh mi in the CBD and for the best price too! The bread is so fresh and warm and perfect. The shop is operated by the sweetest lady, she is so friendly and nice to talk to! Please support her business by making sure you walk all the way to the end of the tunnel so that you can buy her amazing food!

BANH MI in the CBD is a unicorn in the sense that it is the every-person food – the working class staple that has also become so kitsch to newer, more adventurous diners that both its cultural equity and therefore, literal economy has been scaled up. This is common trend with exotification of ethnic cuisines but I digress— /we’re here to talk about some damn good Vietnamese sandwich rolls/. The underpass leading to the famous Centeal Station railway tunnel in Sydney has played home to the most random assortment of grab-and-go eateries, pop up shops, chemists and newsagents. Classic fare for retail proximus to interchange transport spaces. When Blossom popped up it was quite simply the cooler and Bain Marie display with a small a frame sign, rushed in to fill out a space that was once a Thai takeaway, that was then a viral sandwich shop and something-something before that. The good news? It looks like Blossom is here to stay. With a ripper BM for under $10… in the Sydney CBD, and a young family cranking things out which appear to be all their own recipes and makings, it’s like the ‘burbs came to the right part of the city where it integrates seamlessly. That area churns hustle and bustle workers, labourers and university students where cheap yet delicious and easy takeaway eats is the most desirable. Their array doesn’t skimp on any of the deluxe options you’d find out in the Styx and in fact has variants on fan favourites such as BBQ pork (two ways : “Vietnamese” or “Chinese” style) , marinated chicken and cold cuts classic style * 2. The veggies are all pickled and have a lovely and distinct crunch denoting a quicker/fresher pickling, and the pate is buttery smooth and not over powering if you prefer your chicken livers with less funk and simpler seasoning. Finally, customisation is a go! That’s double proteins and also, cash is deity level for marginal discounts and major love. BR&E ~ my favourite Banh Mi and casual Vietnamese eatery in the CBD stretch.

This is a hidden gem! Their banh mi are some of the best in Sydney, and most are under $10. The lemongrass pork, lemongrass chicken, and the nem nuong meatball are all good recommendations.
